I think the Amr Diab website have done a good thing when they decided to close the forums for a couple of days until the album hits the market. This way, they have limited the spread of the leaked version, which is available only on one site, and kept the potential damage to sales to a minimum.

However, even if the link to the page that has the leaked album has been widely distributed, I think only a few would be able to download it because the hosting server would crash down under the high demand. Reports talk about fake copies of the album being sold in Kuwait and Egypt, but I think real fans won't be fooled.

Waiting, Leakage, and More

When Amr Diab was done with the new album and it was supposed be released on November 28, this time it is Rotana's turn to delay the album, and makes the fans wait for a longer time. Due to some problems with their promotional plans, Rotana said, the album will be released on December 14. This date is supposed to be official and final. The new album is called Kammil Kalamak, and Rotana has released samples of the ten songs of the album for mobile services providers. You can download the samples from ADW homepage (link 1, link 2).

However, the big news, and as I was expecting, is that several tracks of the new album have been leaked on the internet. The first track to be leaked was Kammil Kalamak, by one of the fans who recorded the song from Rotana FM (Jordan only) and put it in some forums. Not a long time later, some MP3 websites and forums leaked several more tracks, including Allah La Yehremni Minnak, Ma'ak Begad, Ayam We Ben'esh'ha, and We Malo, which is expected to be Amr's first video from the new album. UPDATE: The whole album has been leaked. I think Rotana should consider releasing it earlier.

It is said the source of leakage is one of Rotana local partners and distributors, who are supposed to be preparing copies of the album now to hit the market next week. Rotana, of course, is blamed, for the leakage. If they cannot control the behavior of their partners, and they were really concerned about the confidentiality of the album, they could make the process of copying and distributing the album central instead of depending on some unreliable people.

I have listened to the samples and some of the leaked tracks (guilty, I know, but I could not help it. I have not distribute them, and I have no intention to do so), and even though it is too early to have any reaction about it, I think the new album would make what Allem Albi and Leily Nahary could not make. I think the new album will bring Amr back to the masses he gained with records like Tamally Ma'ak and Aktar Wahed Behibbak.

For devoted Amr fans, the new album would taste so sweet because they have been waiting for a long time, and they will discover that it was worth it. It does not matter what kind of music he is using, or who arrangers he is collaborating with, because these fans are going to buy any CD with Amr's name on the cover, even if it was a blank CD. Now, I can't wait until it is Wednesday December 14 morning to go to Rotana music store and get my CD.

WAMA: The Best New Act

Thanks to the rise of Arabic music channels, Arab music industry has been producing new artists like mushrooms! However, music is always about quality, and never about quantity.

Many new comers, but very few worth watching. The best new act over the past one or two years, imho, is WAMA. Last year, this Egyptian boys band, composed of four college students, released their second album Ya Ghali A'aliya, and it was one of the best albums of the year.

The four boys are very talented, and even Amr Diab has collaborated with one of them, namely Nader Hamdi, to work with him on his last album, arranging most songs of Leily Nahary. During last Ramadhan, amongst the vast amount of religious songs that were produced, their song Kan Nefsi was one of the few that really stood out.

Production Companies War II

Last year was the year of war between production companies in the Arab World. Rotana, the biggest production company in the region, knocked out their main rival Alam El-Phan. First, Rotana signed Amr Diab in the biggest deal of its kind in the Arabic music industry, and then signed the rest of major artists who used to work with Alam El-Phan, such as Angham, Saber Al-Rubaie, and Mohammed Fouad. Later, Roatan purchased 60% of Alam El-Phan shares, and the war was practically over.

But with more than 100 artists, coupled with some bad management, Rotana was facing troubles, too. Many of their artists were complaining that they don't receive the attention and support they deserve from the company.

Recently, a new player has entered the market. Melody Music, a company owned by the well-known Egyptian businessman Nageeb Sawires, has called all Egyptian singers who have problems with Rotana to join them. The company, which has produced albums for some new comers such as Jad Choirie and Yara, has already signed with the Walid Tawfiq and Jwana Mallah, both from Leabanon. But the big news is that Kazem Al-Saher and Assi Al-Hellani are rumored to join the company soon.

At the end of their report (Arabic) on this subject, Al-Hayat newspaper was wondering if Rotana is paying enough attention to the changes in the market, and questions their ability to survive, even if they lost some of the major names on their list.

ADW, Relaunched

Amr Diab World, Amr Diab's official website was relaunched last week. The new website, dubbed version 4, looks impressive with a new blue theme, and a great design with a special attention to details. Many new features were introduced in this redesign, including a rewritten biography, a new 'Events' page, and a shopping section.

Something I really liked was that the forums were redesigned to look like an essential part of the website, and not like an offsite thing. Another great thing was that they provide RSS feeds for both news and forums, which makes keeping updated with the latest much easier. This emphasizes the importance of forums, and gives a whole lotta appreciation to the efforts of the fans. Congratulation to all members of the ADW community, and thanks to Tantawi and the rest of the ADW's crew.

It's officially Eid al-Fitr, and the album is not released yet. However, many speculations are taking place in the forums, and among the fans. The news section at ADW says Amr told them the release date would be late November, while some members at the forums are suggesting an earlier date. What's more interesting, is that some members have posted the tracks listing of the new album, with credits provided. Another member has also posted some lyrics. The final date for the release of the new album is still not confirmed, but it is highly anticipated to be during this month. I, for one, am sick of the expectations game, so I decided I will just wait patiently, and when the album comes out, I'll go to buy it right away. Enough said.

So yesterday was October 24, and nothing has happened. Looking back at the past two weeks, I was quite sure that the new album won't be released, because we didn't see any ads by Rotana promoting it, and there was nothing in the news either. The album will probably be out on Eid al-Fitr; about 10-12 days from now, but nothing is confirmed yet. Let's keep an eye on Rotana TV for the coming few days, and let's hope to hear some good news soon.

The New Album

According to 6arab.com, Amr Diab's new album will be released on October 24. The website said that the suggested title of the album until now is "Amr Diab 2005." However, I don't think the album will be released under this title, because this is so unlike Amr.

There is bunch of stuff that are unusual about this album. First, the absolute silence about the details of the album. If you can recall, millions of rumors were circulating before the release of Leily Nahary. And second, if the date mentioned above is correct, this means the album will be out in Ramadhan. Not many singers take the risky step of releasing their albums at the most holy month for Muslims.

Zahrat Al-Khaleej Report

In the last issue of Zahrat Al-Khaleej magazine, the entertainment editor Rabea' Henaidy wrote what the magazine labeled as a "report." It was almost rubbish, and here is the important stuff.

The report says, referring to Egyptian newspapers, that Amr Diab had some work done. It says Amr went to the same hospital that international stars such Silvestre Stallone and others had their plastic surgeries. However, Amr's manager denied that, adding that Amr just had some massage and exercise.

The report is also saying that the video had not been well received by the fans, which is partly true. But the report is questioning the real cost of the video, as the magazine's sources are talking about $90,000, while other sources "close to Amr", according to the magazine, said the video cost was around $230,000.

Carthage Concert: Incomplete Report

The Egyptian legend Amr Diab performed a legendary concert on the historical stage of Carthage, Tunisia, last night. The concert started at 2145 GMT, and thousands of fans attended long before the party got started!

Amr, who looked great in his black hair, while he was wearing a creamy blouse with cool blue jeans, decided to begin the concert all by himself. Playing the piano and singing "Ousad Einy" was a surprise to me.

After that, the songs flooded one after another. Here is the list:

Ousad Einy/Amarin, which he dedicated it to his children/We Heya Amla Eih/El-A'alim Allah/Wala Ala Balu/Kan Tayeb/A'amil Eih/Tamally Ma'ak/Ana Ayesh/Medly:Rageen, Edu El-Bab, Matkhafeesh (he played on drums), Shawwana (he played keyboard)/Khallina Neshofak (ended with Mayyal!) --Break-- Ba'ed El-Layali/Khaleek Fakerni/Rehit El-Habaib/Leily Nahary (piano)/Wahashteeni/Leily Nahary.

Here and there:

- There was a short interview with Amr in the Airport, where he signed autographs for fans and took pictures with them. He was wearing a white t-shirt with blue jeans, and carrying -as usual- his Lui Vuyton bag.

- Amr seemed to have a very good mood all the time on stage. He was happy to sing for a big audience, and the people were happy to see him singing their favourites.

- During the concert, Amr praised Rotana for what he called their "good work." Excuse me Mr. Diab; they are not good enough for you ;)

- Just before the concert ended, a Tunisian little girl held the mic and said to Amr "Welcome to Tunis." The concert lasted over tow hours.

- The fans filled the SMS ticker most of concert time. One example is Osama from ADW. Other fans also existed but never mentioned their names. You know who you are, guys!

- There was some interruptions from Wael Kefouri fans who were talking about some party next week. What kind of party is that? Birthday party? Bachelor party? What the hell are they talkin' about? The King is here, so try to enjoy him, people! ;)

Things are Clear Now

Mr. Walid Diab from ADW has written some important points about the last album and other issues. I will try to summarize/translate some parts of his thread [Arabic] here.

Some fans who said some bad stuff about the album were very unfair to their favourite artist. The poster was not that bad and all the ten tracks were good if not excellent. Mr. Walid agreed with me that the arrangement was good, but it could be better if Amr has worked with Tareq Madkour or Fahd.

About the video, may be it's not the best of Amr but it's really, really good. At least it was much better that the garbage we are watching on Melody and co. everyday.

Regarding Alam El-Phan and Amr's former producer Mohsen Gaber, it was really pathetic to watch them trying to affect the new album sales by releasing some songs through mobile services companies. It seems that Mr. Gaber convinced that he can do nothing, so he decided to play some little games. USELESS!!

Alam El-Phan rivals Rotana had a big shock when they knew the numbers of sales of the new album on its first day. Their record was for Kazem Al-Saher who sold 75000 copies and now Amr is selling 450000 copies and the market is still asking for more!

Prince Al-Waleed bin Talal, the owner of Rotana, was so happy to hear that and decided to meet Amr personally in Beirut to congratulate him. During that meeting, Prince Al-Waleed gave Amr a special gift. He asked him to shoot another video-clip as a bonus [not included in the contract between Amr and Rotana]

Some people said this album was a huge success, while others said Amr should have done better and considered this album as a failure. The next concert for Amr in Marina, Egypt on August, 20 will make the things clear.

From the first times I listened to Leily Nahary album, I got this nostalgic feeling. The feeling of the early times of Amr, especially the times he worked with the Libyan artist Hameed Al-Sha'eri (good for ya Hameed Lover!).

Many melodies remind me with the past. The music style brings back the old good times of the late 80s and the early 90s. This may sound weird because I wasn't born until 1984 but I used to listen and like music from that period.

However, I was disappointed when the new album released and I could not find Hameed's name on the cover of the CD. Before the album released there was plenty of news about a reunion between Amr and Hameed in a song called "Rehit El-Habaib." I even read an interview for Hameed where he confirmed that. When the album released, the song was there but Hameed wasn't!

What happened?! Anyone got anything about this?

Review

Al-Ahram newspaper has published the first part of a review for the latest album written by a music critic called Ashraf Abdul-Menaim.

The critic made a point about giving most of the songs to one arranger. I'm definitely with him on this point. I think some remarkable works by the likes of Tareq Madkour, Fahd and Hani Yakoub should have be considered before deciding to let all your work in the hands of a start-up like Nader Hamdi.

I'm not saying that Hamdi's work was bad. He got his ups and downs, just like anybody else, but there is one thing for sure: he has little experience to work with a legend like Amr, and he could be just overwhelmed to do so.

Easier Said than Done

No one really knows the whole truth about the Amr-Beyonce-duet thing. Different rumors from different sources have been around for some time but nothing confirmed until now.

Some people say as long as he did not release the duet in the new album, there's no duet at all. Others are hoping to hear a surprise later this year with no particular expectations.

For me, the most realistic scenario would go this way:
Before the end of this year (maybe on Xmas), Amr will release a new mix of his song "Illa Heya" featuring Beyonce as a single and he may shot a video-clip for it.
What makes me hopeful about this thing is that there are different reliable sources such as MBC-FM and Nogoom FM has confirmed it. I really hope that this thing work as the previous duets for Amr (with Khaled and Angela Demitrio) could not take Amr to the international charts.

I was surprised when I heard Amr's "Tesna Wahda" on Dream II TV. It was surprising because the pictures were not for Amr. The pictures were for the Egyptian footballer Husam Hasan [do I need to mention his brother Ibrahim? 'cause it seems like the Hasan brothers come in one package!].

Unreleased Track

The fans were busy this week with an unreleased track named "Ya Nasi Wa'adak." It is said that this track was excluded from Allem Albi album. The song is nice but compared to the rest of the album, it's not that good. I read that the track was released by Alam ElPhan, which has other unreleased tracks for Amr, to affect the sales of the new album. How pathetic!

The song is available in HQ sound from different sources but unfortunately I lost the link to it. If I got it, I'll inform you.Anyone got it? Help please!

Amateurs and Plastic. Need a Doctor?

Amateurs, plastic and doctors; what do they have in common? Nothing but some TV shows.
Since I had nothing to do tonight, I've decided to stay home and watch some TV.

I was in the living room when I heard one of my favorite songs coming from the next room. I went there to watch Husam Madania from Superstar [the Arabic version of PopIdol] singing my very favorite "Sa'aban Alia". His Egyptian mate Raneem Ketait sang "Te'dar Tetkalim" but, you know that already, they were nothing compared to Amr. I hate it when amateurs ruin my favorite music.

The gust of the show was Sherine Abdu-Wahab, who looked like she had some work done. I think everyone could notice some new stuff over her chest ;) Good for her fiancé!

On Rotana TV, there was Yuri Mrakadi. I don't like that guy, but I don't hate him. Anyway, Dr. Hala Sarhan was hosting him on her Hala Show and I don't know about you guys but this man really has something to say. He is different. He is all by himself. He is just himself even if he looked like Clark Gable, or said: "if I were Omar El-Sherif, would you love me more?"

Making-of Needs Some Make-up

What Rotana considered as a making-of Amr Diab's new clip was nothing comparing to the making-of's we know. It was just a cameraman hanging around with his camera on the shooting sit and nothing else.

No interviews, no information, no nothing! I was waiting to find out where the shooting was and when did they start and how long it took... but nothing, nothing at all!

Finally, I thought the director was a male but form the making-of I concluded [nobody told me, I concluded this myself] was a female. It's an innocent mistake. I'm sorry.

Random Access Memory

I've told that I'm going to google the director of the new Amr's video-clip in order to tell you more info about him. In fact, I could not find much about him except his videography which reveals a lot of big names.

Cameron Casey, who has co-founded a production company called Kree8, has directed a big number of VCs for the likes of Boyz II Men, Boyzone, Five, Westlife, Billi Piper, Mel C, Shaggy, Jessica Simpson and Missy E.

One of his latest works was with the famous British band Blue. He's directed their last album's head title "Signed, sealed, delivered I'm yours" feat. Stevie Wonder and Angie Stone. This VC was released early this year before he directed the new VC for Amr Diab.

I could not get my album until 19:37 GMT last night, so I'm not going to write much about the new album till I listen to it again and again and...
But before I got the album, I've watched the video-clip when Rotana TV put it for the first time during the request program "Shebaik Lebbaik." It was some kind of surprise to me because I wasn't expecting to watch the VC before one or two weeks. What a beautiful surprise!

The VC is directed by the British director Cameron Casey, who directed a lot of famous VCs since the early 90s. I will try to google him to get more information about him. Keep watching the VC [and the blog!].

While Sherine Wagdy's new album ad was poping-up in my face on every music and non-music channel, Amr Diab's new album ad was rarely seen on Rotana TV only. Why does Rotana make this difference in the ad campaigns between the albums? Is Sherine Wagdy more important to Rotana than Amr Diab? I really can't understand it.

It wasn't only on TV. Sherine Wagdy's ads were available all the time through radio stations, newspapers, magazines and on the streets. I don't know if Amr is just lazy to do an ad campaign for himself, but I know that Rotana is blamed for not promoting Amr in the proper way.

I've heard that Sherine's ad campaign were made by her wealthy husband, but this is no excuse for Rotana, as we've seen Rotana making some miracles to promote other artists. I know that ads are not everything, so let's just wait and see who is gonna make the smash hit of this summer.

How Many? How Good?

Some of the fans are reported to be sad that the new album will contain only ten tracks while they were hoping to listen to 12 or even 14 tracks. The quastion is: Does the number matter? Maybe, but I think the number is not the best thing to worry about.

The important thing is the quality. For me, it's fine with me to listen to ten original unique beautiful tracks. You know, the number TEN isn't so little!
I guess what makes this number thing such a big deal for some people is that they know for sure that Amr has worked on more songs but then decided to exclude them.

Tomorrow is the big day and I'm sure that we will read a big number of irrational quick reviews by the fans. All I'm trying to say is: Take your time guys, listen carefully and then think twice before you post any kind of review.
Finally, remeber that no matter how many tracks are there, it's quality which matters not quantity.

There was a little argument in the Diabology forum about the lyrics of the new songs when a member wrote the lyrics depending on the 5 songs sample. That member wrote the incomplete lyrics with some mistakes. Here, I will give you the full lyrics of "Leily Nahary" and "Dayman Fi Bali".

Beyonce?

Two members of AD.ca forums wrote that Amr Diab had recorded a due with the American hot singer Beyonce. The first member source is Kalam El-Nass Magazine, while the other said that he listened to the news from MBC-FM which called it "Exclusive." MBC-FM is really close to the production company Rotana and this could be true.
I hope this is true, as it's going to be the hottest news of this summer!

Usually, when a singer belongs to Rotana release a new album, he/she appears on a weekly show on Rotana TV called "Maa Hobi"[With My Love] where the Lebanese presenter Jumana Abu-Eid host him/her to talk about the new album and sing some of its songs.

Sorry guys, that's not the case for Amr. You all know that Amr hates all this interviews thing, so he refused to be a guest on the show. Melody Hits website said the reason is that Amr is "busy recoding his new album" but this not true as we know that Amr has finished recoding the album and he is ready to release it this week.

I hope that we could see Amr in a press conference after releasing the album as he always refuse to show up on TV program's. I don't really remember the last time I saw him talking on TV. Maybe about a year ago when he signed the contract with Rotana? Correct me if I am wrong!

Diabology: Welcome Back!

The Diabology website is online again after it has been crashed down two days ago. The reason of suspension according to the site is the huge demand for the full version of Amr's new hit "Leli Nahary". The site will direct you to download it from AD.info, which I tried few minutes ago but it is not possible until now as the "Right Click is not allowed!" and the left click gave me "The page cannot be displayed"!
I'm really disappointed!

The Diabology website is not available now because what it seems like a problem with the hosting company. I hope the guys at Diabology can fix this problem soon as the new album is going to be out next week and so many fans are depending on the site to get the latest news.

According to MelodyHits Flashing News few minutes ago, Amr Diab new video-clip will feature six Italian models. And according to some forums, the album will be out between 3 and 7 July, while the posters are available now. You can listen to a sample of 5 songs of the album through Diabology.com.

Alam ElPhan, the former production company of Amr Diab, has finally started their summer campaign with three albums in about one month.
First, there was Diana Haddad's new album which was delayed so many times that we thought it will never go out. And then, the other Lebanese diva Nawal Al-Zoghbi who also delayed her album release more than once and said that because she was looking for the best. The truth is, she did not reach that best she was talking about. The head of her new album "Eniyk Kaddabin", which she sang it in the Miss Lebanon 2004 ceremony last week, is just another lousy Turkish-Arabic-mixture song. I did not listen to the rest of the album yet, but what I heard is not promising.

The third album is "Seebha Tehebbak" by Hisham Abbas. Hisham is one of the few pop artists in the Arab World and he belongs to the same generation that Amr Diab belongs to but he could not reach the success of Amr, especially on the international level. Hisham's last two albums included two smash hits in the Middle East: "Nari Nareen" (aka "Habeebi Dah") and "Fenuh". Just to honest with you, his last album was a joy to listen to, and according to a member in the ADW forum, the new album is almost the same.

The summer is long, and a lot of music is still to come in the next weeks. Amr Diab's new album is expected to be out on the first week of July, while a lot of other singers are intending to release their new works in the three-months of the summer before everyone get back to school and suffer listening to the national anthem every morning.

As expected, Elissa's album "Ahla Dunia" was good. But that's not what I want to talk about.
The thing is, I've read in the Diabology board that one of Elissa's songs was originally for Amr. Elissa did not sang the exact same song, but one specific line that I've heard it by Amr in a concert. The line says: "Kan nefsi aaraf add eih habbetni...".
The song is known among Amr's fans under the name "Amana Alyik", while Elissa's song is called: "..."
The problem is, since then I always imagine Amr singnig Elissa's song and wonder how Amr could make it?

We hoped to enjoy a show like the Grammy's or the Brits, but all what we've got in the Arabian Music Awards was a total failure.
The organization was a huge disaster, while very few big stars showed up.
I don't know if the Arabian Music Academy are intending to organize the awards in the next year, but if they are going to, they have to correct a lot of mistakes.
Among the mistakes about the awards were my expectations. Amr Diab won three awards for best Egyptian sog, best Egyptian artist and the big best Arabian artist award.
On behalf of Amr, I would like to thank all the fans for their support and effort.

Some of the best things about music are the awards. The Grammy's, The Brits, MTV Awards and the World Music Awards are the most importnant in the international music industry and now Arabs got their own awards.
The Arabian Music Awards will be presented for the first time by the new Arabian Music Academy in Duabi. The big event is sponsored by the mobile communications giant Nokia.
There will be a big show on Saturday March 15, with live performances by the likes of Nancy Ajram, Memriam Faris and Arab idol Diana Karazone. Also, there will be a special apperance for Outladish and Michael Learns to Rock.
Amr Diab is nominated for three awards; best artist, best song and best album. The fans through different Amr's sites are leading a campaign for voting through the AMA website and mobile phones. However, I don't expect Amr to win any award. Not because Amr's work was not fine enough, but because this voting game is tricky.
For me, I did my part. Now there is nothing I can do. Just wish the best for Amr.

The Lebanese hot singer Elissa, who sang once with Amr Diab at LG concert, is going to release her new album this week. The album will be the first for Elissa with the biggest production company in Arab world Rotana.
Elissa's last album made a huge success, and the hit "Ayshalak" occupied the top of the Arabic charts for so many weeks.
My room-mate, who claims to be Elissa's biggest fan, is not expecting too much for this album. He says: usually when someone makes a great hit, his next work cannot reach the same level.
For me, I don't really know. I liked the last album but I think Elissa can do much more. I haves listened to a song [Kul Youm Fi Omry] form the new album on MBC-FM and it was a nice thing, but who knows what kind of surprises Elissa is hiding for us in this album?

While waiting for the new album of Amr, you can't just sit right there doing nothing but listening to "Allem Albi". And amoung the huge amount of singers and music works brought to you by the 24/42 music TVs and radios, you have to choose what can entertain you with minimum damages to your brain.
Something nice to listen to currently is the new album of Tamer Hosni [the album title is "Hob".] The former co-star of FreeMix is back again with a good collection of modern Egyptian music.
Tamer, who is also a talented song writer and composer, has shot one vedio clip of "Arrab Habibi" directed by director/producer Nassr Mahrous. It was a good vedio, specially if you campare it to the low-quality vedios we are watching on Melody and Mazzkia everyday.
Three song I liked the most: "Arrab Habibi", "Hob" and "Lamma Betkoun Baeed" but in general, the whole album is good. I recommend it for you and give it 3.5/5.

A lot of romours about Amr's new album. Very few facts.
Here's the hottest thing. AmrDiab.info site published the latest details about the new album. The site claims that all info are according to Amr himself.
The most important thing was the date. We've heard a lot of different dates: March, April, May and now AD.info says the album will be out in the beginning of June or before two weeks depending on when Amr finishes the video clip.
This album has been long awaited and we hope it will be out ASAP.

It's not so bad that there are a lot of websites interested in Amr Diab. In fact, that reflects how popular Amr is and how much his fans like him. Because I also like him, I decided to start this blog trying to save some of your time and effort by collecting as much as possible info and news from Amr's sites and also from other websites.
But that's not everything. News and info are just a part of this blog. This blog is also reflecting my personal impression about Amr's music and style.
